Echocardiography

Echocardiography is highly professional, safe and non invasive test for examining the structures, function and blood flow in the heart. It is a very useful and helpful scan as it allows your doctor to see your heart beating and pumping blood. Your doctor can use the images to identify the specific problems affecting the heart.
It is used to Check for problems with the valves or chambers of the heart, and also to determine if heart problems are the cause of symptoms such as shortness of breath or chest pain and to detect congenital heart defects before birth (fetal echocardiogram)

Prenatal Ultrasound

We use this to diagnose pregnancy, check number of fetuses, estimate due date, determine the gender of the fetus, check for birth defects that affect the brain, spinal cord and other vital organs of the baby and to determine the overall health of the baby. The scan can also show the size and position of the fetus and its placenta, in addition to the baby’s expected weight and amniotic fluid volume.

Abdominal Ultrasound

Used for scanning the abdominal organs to check for any disease condition. Such abdominal organs include the gallbladder, liver, spleen, intestines, kidneys, and tumors or masses in the abdomen.

Gynecological Ultrasound

A Gynecological scan involves ultrasound assessment of the uterus, ovaries and the parts of the pelvis which are nearby to diagnose conditions such as uterine fibroids, adenomyosis, endometrial polyps and ovarian cysts.

Prostate & Testicular Ultrasound

Ultrasound scan is used to detect whether the prostate is enlarged or not and to detect disorders within the prostate and abnormal growth within it including those from non cancerous enlargement of the prostate and from prostate cancer.
Testicular or scrotal scan is done to diagnose cause of pain or swelling in the testes such as inflammation or torsion and also to diagnose cause of infertility such as varicocele etc.

Vascular Doppler Scan

Your doctor may suggest a Doppler ultrasound exam if you show signs of decreased blood flow in the arteries or veins of your neck, arms or legs.
A reduced amount of blood flow may be due to a blockage in the artery, a blood clot inside a blood vessel, or an injury to a blood vessel. This can help to screen people who are at risk of strokes, heart attacks and pulmonary embolism(blood clot travelling to the lungs).

How to prepare for a scan

Most ultrasound exams require no preparation. However, when scheduling an ultrasound, ask your doctor if there are any specific instructions you'll need to follow. There are a few situations:

• For some scans, such as abdominal scans, you should not eat or drink for up to eight hours before the exam, this is because the food or drink will let the gallbladder discharge bile and become empty make it not visiable under ultrasound. For those who have no gallbladder problems, you can do the scan any time.
• Others, such as a pelvic ultrasound, may require a full bladder. You may need to drink up to six glasses of water two hours before the exam and not urinate until the exam is completed. So may start accumulate water at home before you move out.
• Testicular, thyroid, breast and prostate scans do not require any special preparation.
• Young children may need additional preparation.
